How to get the most from a mock exam

Before you start

Find a quiet room, use headphones if you can, and decide whether to record. Treat the mock as the real thing: no pausing, no scripts, and no restarting answers. Exam conditions are what make a mock test useful.

During the test

Extend Part 1 answers with a reason or an example. In Part 2, write only a few keywords during the preparation minute and keep talking until the timer ends. In Part 3, give an opinion, explain why, and consider another point of view.

After the test

Listen to one or two recordings and review them against the four public criteria: fluency and coherence, lexical resource, grammatical range and accuracy, and pronunciation. The self-evaluation checklist walks you through each one. Choose one specific change, then take another mock and compare.

Why practise with a free online IELTS speaking test?

Many learners read about the speaking exam far more than they actually speak. Repetition under time pressure is what builds fluency, and a free online test removes the barriers—no booking, no partner, no cost. Regular short sessions, such as one Part 1 drill on weekdays and a full mock at the weekend, are usually more effective than occasional long study sessions.

SpeakingIELTS is an independent practice tool. It does not grade you or predict a band score, and it is not an official IELTS assessment. If you want a scored assessment, book a mock with a qualified teacher or an official test centre, and use SpeakingIELTS for the daily practice in between.
