Privacy at SpeakingIELTS
Last updated: 26 August 2026
SpeakingIELTS is an independent practice product designed and maintained by SkilledHat. This policy explains what happens when you use the website and its microphone features.
Your microphone and recordings
Microphone access is requested only after you choose to record an answer. Audio is captured by your browser for playback and download on your device. SpeakingIELTS does not upload your microphone audio to our server, and we cannot listen to or recover it.
Recordings are kept only for the period you select: the active session, 7 days, 30 days, or until you delete them. Retained recordings use this browser’s private site storage. You can review and delete them from Practice History, or clear them through your browser settings.
Practice sessions and local data
The new practice modes store session summaries in this browser so you can see your repetition history. A summary includes the mode, date, answer count, speaking time, and reflection focuses; it does not contain a transcript. The legacy mock-test sequence uses a short-lived first-party session cookie containing a random identifier. It does not contain your name, email address, answers, notes, or recording.
Analytics and third parties
The practice experience does not load advertising, social-sharing, or analytics scripts from third parties. We do not use the practice tool to fingerprint you or build an advertising profile. Links to other websites are clearly identified; their own privacy terms apply after you leave SpeakingIELTS.
Hosting logs
Our hosting provider may process standard server logs needed to deliver and secure the website, such as an IP address, requested URL, timestamp, browser user agent, and error information. These logs do not contain your microphone audio or spoken answers.
Advertising and affiliate links
SpeakingIELTS currently does not display advertising or affiliate links in the refreshed experience. If this changes, commercial links will be visibly disclosed and this policy will be updated before they are introduced.
Children
The site is intended for IELTS candidates and is not designed to collect personal information from children. Because recordings remain on the device, they are not submitted to us. A parent or guardian should supervise a younger learner’s browser and microphone permissions.
Your choices
- Use timed practice without granting microphone access.
- Choose session-only recording or a clear retention period.
- Download an answer recording before moving to the next prompt.
- Delete one session or all local practice history from Practice History.
- Revoke microphone permission or clear all site data in browser settings.
