History: Inviting a friend to visit
A friend from another country is planning to visit your city next month.
Write a letter to your friend. In your letter:
- suggest the best time to visit
- recommend some things to do
- offer to help with accommodation
Write at least 150 words. You do NOT need to write any addresses. Begin your letter as follows: Dear ...,
Approach: Use a friendly, natural tone with contractions and everyday phrases, but keep the letter organised, one paragraph per bullet point.

Dear Anna,
I was so happy to hear you're finally coming to visit next month. I can't wait to show you around!
If you can choose your dates, I'd definitely recommend coming in the second half of the month. The first two weeks are usually rainy, but by the end of the month it's normally warm and sunny, which is perfect for walking around the city. There's also a food festival in the old town on the last weekend, so you'd get to try lots of local dishes.
There's plenty to do here. You have to see the castle, especially at sunset, when the view over the river is amazing. If you like art, the modern art museum is free on Sundays. I'd also love to take you on a day trip to the lakes, which are only an hour away by train.
As for accommodation, please don't waste money on a hotel. You're very welcome to stay with me; I've got a spare room now that my brother has moved out.
Let me know your plans as soon as you can!
Lots of love,
Maria

Turn it into speaking practice
Explain your main argument aloud in two minutes, then answer related discussion questions in the Part 3 speaking practice. Speaking an idea first is a fast way to find what you want to write.
