IELTS Speaking Part 1: Home
Questions about your home are friendly and descriptive. Use precise vocabulary for rooms, size and location, and add one opinion or feeling to each answer.
Home questions
- Do you live in an apartment or a house?
- Is it a large accommodation?
- Who do you live there with?
- What is your favourite room in your accommodation?
- Is it a quiet or noisy place to live?
- What can you see from the windows in your dwelling?
- If you could change anything about your house, what would you change?
Sample answers
Do you live in an apartment or a house?
I live in a two-bedroom apartment on the fourth floor of a building in a residential area, about twenty minutes from the city centre. It's not huge, but it's bright and has a small balcony.
What is your favourite room in your accommodation?
My favourite room is definitely the living room, because it gets the afternoon sun and it's where I relax after work. I've filled it with plants, and there's a comfortable armchair by the window where I read most evenings.

Common mistakes
- Answering "apartment" with one word.
